Sheila Sawyer

Sheila Sawyer, MD, MMM, CPE, FAAPL, FAAFP is a coach, mentor, and teacher. She has served as a teaching fellow/cohort leader for AAPL’s CPE certification program since 1998. Dr Sawyer has enjoyed mentoring over 75 cohorts. She, too, is a Certified Physician Executive with a Masters in Medical Management from Tulane University.

Over the years, Dr Sawyer has held various leadership positions, including serving on the Board of the AAPL, Director of Family Practice and Internal Medicine at Integra Health, then as Regional Medical Director for the Iowa Health System (now known as Unity Point) in Cedar Rapdis, Iowa. She is active in her Church and has chaired several committees as well as served as the Church Moderator. Dr Sawyer attended Medical School at the University of Iowa, followed by Internship and Residency at the Cedar Rapids Community Family Medicine program. She practiced full range family medicine including obstetrics and pediatrics for over 20 years in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. During that time she had a passion for quality improvement and placing the patient in the center of the practice.

Recently, Dr Sawyer became interested in bridging science and metaphysics and is studying various energy healing modalities. For fun the last 10 years, she has devoted her Saturdays to 6 children from her church exploring American history, civics, financial literacy, etc.  What a joy life is!
