American Association for Physician Leadership members share their career news, accolades and other milestones.

Mark J. McDonald, MD, CPE, medical director for Norton Children’s Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky, and professor of pediatrics at University of Louisville School of Medicine, was welcomed as a new member of the Drury University Board of Trustees. McDonald, part of the Drury University Class of 1991, has been an AAPL member since 2016 and earn his CPE in 2018.

Victor Roberts, MD, MBA, FACP, FACE, CPE, has been selected as endocrinologist of the year for 2018 by the International Association of Top Professionals, a boutique networking organization that recognizes prestigious professionals in various industries. Roberts established the Endocrine Associates of Florida in Lake Mary, Florida, in 1988. He has been an AAPL member and CPE since 2003.

Bruce Ovbiagele, MD, MSc, CPE, was appointed Associate Dean of the San Francisco Veterans Affairs Health Care System, which provides services to U.S. military veterans in northern California. He will serve as chief of staff and liaison with the University of California at San Francisco. He has been an AAPL member since 2009, has been a CPE since 2011 and began his fellowship in 2015.

Tony Slonim, MD, DrPH, will be a speaker at a TEDx event at the University of Nevada in February 2019. Slonim is the president and CEO of Reno-based Renown Health, the largest, not-for-profit health system in northern Nevada. He has been an AAPL member since 2002, received his CPE in 2001, began his fellowship in 2015 and is editor-in-chief for the Physician Leadership Journal. Slonim also presented on the Health Nevada Project at the 2018 Physician Leadership Summit in April.

Hoda Asmar, MD, MBA, CPE, FACP, FACHE, FAAPL, was lauded by her company’s CEO for implementing significant changes and new organization-wide strategies that have maximized patient engagement, quality of care and safety, and clinical operations efficiency during her first year as senior vice president and chief clinical officer at Adventist Health, a faith-based nonprofit organization serving 75 communities in California, Oregon and Hawaii. She has taken the lead in redesigning care, building clinical and physician leadership and creating a high-reliability culture with a focus on workforce well-being and patient experience and outcomes. She is following through on the organization’s endeavor to dramatically curtail medical errors, seeing a 30 percent reduction so far. She has been an AAPL member since 2001 and is a former member of its board of directors.
